Rating agencies may have taken a beating in the credit crisis, but some are hoping to make a good dollar out of the climate crisis.
The Carbon Rating Agency has announced that subscribers to Bloomberg’s market data service will now have access to independent information on the reliability and effectiveness of emission-reduction projects.
The Carbon Rating Agency is a subsidiary of IDEAcarbon, and their goal is to provide AAA-style credit ratings for carbon credits. They assess the likelihood of emission-reduction projects delivering promised emission cuts within the stated time period. Bloomberg’s decision to distribute the CRA’s reports is an encouraging reminder of how important climate change is becoming to mainstream financial markets.

To the mothball sufferer: The first priority is YOUR health. You need to leave the polluted environment. Perhaps your health would improve giving you more energy if your air was better? Why not move immediately and rent out your apartment? Think of this: How much would you pay to instantly fix the problem? Wouldn't a move instantly fix your problem? No legal action will restore your health. What a lawyer might be able to do is to make the person causing your problem reimburse you financially for all the suffering they have put you through. But that is secondary. First – move. Nothing is more important. No amount of money can replace damaged lungs. Moth balls are a disgrace – we've used them only out of ignorance just like we used DDT, lead and many other chemicals unknowingly. It should be common sense that nothing replaces frequent air exchanges as we really never know what we're breathing. A heat exchanger should be mandatory equipment on all homes as there is simply no cheaper way of heating air than using already heated air to heat it. And if that air is being drawn from outside and run through a good HEPA filter its even better than outside air. Several years ago people woke up to water quality and realized that if chlorine kills bacteria (and us in larger concentrations), maybe, just maybe its bad for us in low concentrations. Sadly people's awareness of air quality is seemingly decades away. I wonder why people are so stunted in their environmental awareness in this most crucial area? People love to hate lawyers but people like Diane can change an industry – otherwise nothing will happen. People like Diane can add a significant percentage of lifespan to the general population. Its quite incredible when you think about it. Talk about important work!
