Just try to figure out: is the tree a private property? Then who is the owner of it? If I plant the tree today to cut it 30 years later just to burn it in order to have cheap fuel to cook my dinner, why do I have to pay to somebody for so called permit? If I grow the chicken to eat it, maybe I should get the permit to decapitate it? But if I'm not longer a owner of a tree on my property, then City should prune it, rake the leaves and simply- take it away from my property- I don't want it. City is going to far- the next step will be - mandatory to have tree or 2 of them in front and on the back yard. People always was planting trees- there was no need for any by law. Then why??? I can tell you why- it's a simply cash grab. Pure and simple- money extortion. They follow communist govs from communist countries, and we are loosing our rights and freedoms- step by step.

Thanks for letting us know, Anne. Toronto does some work to protect city trees too, but seems to be quite ineffective in protecting private trees.
Best wishes
